Colleges That Give Military Credit

Guidelines and standards have been established through the American Council on Education (ACE) to convert military experience into college course credit. These standards are recognized by admissions officers at schools across the United States. ACE evaluations programs are funded through the Department of Defense.
  1. Central Texas College

    • Though Central Texas College is headquarted in Fort Hood, Texas, locations can also be found both nationally and internationally and in a non-traditional online form. Courses are scheduled in eight-week intervals for a total of five semesters each year. Credit for military training and experience is offered and must be verified through military documentation: applicable experience includes Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine training. Required documents are based on branch of service and MOS or rating level for present enlistments and prior military service.

    Columbia College

    • Columbia College evaluates college credit through the following documents: AARTS, CGI, SMART, CCAF and National Guard transcripts. To properly evaluate a military education for course credit, each document submitted must include a course title, length, date and location. Columbia College's main campus is located in Columbia, Mo., with nationwide campuses located in California, Colorado, Illinois, Missouri and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, among others. Columbia College issues military credit for experience with the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard and National Guard. A military transfer guide is offered on the Columbia College website.

    University of Wisconsin

    • University of Wisconsin-Platteville's distance-learning college transfers military experience as course credit. Using the guidelines created by the American Council on Education (ACE), the University of Wisconsin-Platteville reviews courses obtained since 1972 via the Department of Defense, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and the National Guard. The university encourages all enlisted personnel and veterans serving for more than a year in the regular armed forces to submit a copy of their DD214 for evaluation and review. Further documentation and transcripts will be necessary if military schools were attended. The school maintains a veteran's official in the registrars office.
