Sports Engineering Colleges

The field of sports engineering focuses on the development, testing and design and of sports equipment and sports-related technology. According to the International Sports Engineering Association, the field is a rapidly emergent subset of traditional engineering, exemplifying a wide range of academic study and technological development. As a result of the relative newness of this particular field of study as of 2010, degrees are only offered in the United Kingdom and Australia.
  1. University of Sheffield

    • The University of Sheffield's degree program in sports engineering is offered through the school's Department of Mechanical Engineering. The four-year program is grounded in a core curriculum aimed at training students in the fundamentals of mechanical engineering as well as the structure and behavior of the human body. Courses in sports management and mathematics are also included. The final year of the program is focused on a yearlong research project developed in conjunction with the department.

    University of Adelaide

    • Students in the Bachelor of Sports Engineering program at the University of Adelaide study courses in fluid mechanics, dynamics, biomechanics and physiology, just to name a few. The four-year program includes advanced courses in exercise physiology and culminates in a student-designed sports engineering project. Successful graduates are required to complete 12 weeks of approved work experience at a company or organization involved in the field of sports engineering or sports physiology.
