Hillsborough Community College offers a vocational program to achieve dental assisting certification. The program will prepare a graduate to take the Dental Assisting National Board exams and earn the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential. The 12-month program is accredited by the American Dental Association and is available at all five of Hillsborough's campuses, including one near Brandon.

Erwin Technical Center, located in Tampa, offers a full-time dental assisting vocational program that is accredited by the American Dental Association. The program is 12 months in length with a new session commencing every 18 weeks. Erwin Technical Center also offers job placement assistance upon program completion.

The Meridian Career Institute has campuses located in Sarasota and Tampa. Within its allied health division, Meridian Career Institute offers a dental assistant certification program that is approved by the Florida State Board of Dentistry to include expanded duties and radiology training. The program offers extensive hands-on training, including an externship at a local dental office.

The dental assisting diploma program at Remington College can be completed in 8 months. The curriculum prepares students for an entry-level dental assistant position, and allows students to participate in an externship at a local dental office to learn directly from experts working in the field. Students in good standing may apply to have their certification exam application fees paid for by Remington College. This program has approval from the Florida State Board of Dentistry to teach expanded duties and radiology. The Tampa campus is one of 19 nationwide Remington College locations.

The Sanford-Brown Institute of Tampa offers a dental assisting program with expanded functions. The program, approved by the Florida State Board of Dentistry, trains students in chair-side assisting techniques as well as dental laboratory and office administration procedures. The diploma program consists of laboratory and clinical experience, including a supervised externship in a dental office.
