The dental assisting day program at Porter and Chester Institute can take as few as nine months to complete. The evening program takes fewer than 14 months to complete. Both programs include 600 classroom and lab hours and 300 externship hours. This program prepares students for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) exam. The Porter and Chester Institute has eight campuses in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and the dental assisting program is offered in Stratford, Conn. and Waterford, Conn., both near Danbury.

The Dental Chairside Assistant program at Lincoln College of New England is a 38-credit hour program with 28 program hours and 10 general education hours. The program includes classroom, lab and clinical hours. This certificate program is offered at the Southington, Connecticut campus, also known as Briarwood College, and is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. This program prepares students to take the Dental Assisting National Board certification exam.

Dent-Temp Careers is a member of the American Dental Assistants Association and provides training in dental assisting. The classes are small, with fewer than 15 students. This dental assisting program focuses on hands-on training. The program has six courses that take 56 hours. The program does not cover radiology certification, which is required in some states.
