How to Cite an Author Quoted in Another Author's Work

When you cite the words of one author as quoted in the work of a second author, you are citing a secondary source. You do not need to list bibliographical information any differently at the end of your paper; simply cite bibliographic information for the book or article from which you are quoting. However, both Modern Language Association (MLA) and American Psychological Association (APA) style require that you add a phrase to your in-text citations acknowledging that you are quoting a secondary source.
