How Do I Cite an Author Who Another Cites in Their Paper?

Citing one person through the work of a second person is known as an indirect citation. This is generally discouraged; students are encouraged to seek out the original source of information and cite that instead. In some cases, however, the original source cannot be located and you must cite the indirect source. In this case, remember that you are citing the author of the indirect source, and it is this author that must appear in your parenthetical citation, as well as in your reference list.
