How to Cite PowerPoint in APA in Text

PowerPoint is a program commonly used to disseminate information as a simple slideshow. While researching your term paper, you may come across information that is only available on the Internet as a PowerPoint presentation. If you are using American Psychological Association citation style and need to cite a PowerPoint presentation, you must cite parenthetically within the text and include full bibliographic information in a works-cited page at the end of your paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin your citation with the last name and first initial of the author. Follow this with a period. For example: Jones, J.

    • 2

Follow the author's name with the date of publication. Enclose the date in parentheses followed by a period. For example: Jones, J. (2001, May 9).

    • 3

Follow the date of publication with the title of the PowerPoint presentation. According to APA style, only the first letter of the title should be capitalized. Also capitalize the first letter of any proper noun. For example: Jones, J. (2001, May 9). The influence of the Mayan civilization

    • 4

List "PowerPoint slides" in brackets followed by a period. For example: Jones, J. (2001, May 9). The influence of the Mayan civilization [PowerPoint slides].

    • 5

End your bibliographic citation with the URL at which you accessed the PowerPoint presentation, preceded by the phrase "retrieved from." For example: Jones, J. (2001, May 9). The influence of the Mayan civilization [PowerPoint slides]. Retrieved from http://www.anysite.net/web/pp/slides

    • 6

Cite the author's last name and the year of publication within the text any time you quote or paraphrase from the source. For example: The Mayan civilization was responsible for "helping humanity develop devices to measure time" (Jones, 2001).
