University of North Carolina's Kenan-Flagler Business School offers a four-year PhD in Strategy and Entrepreneurship to train scholars to produce groundbreaking and high-quality research as faculty members at the university level. Most of the program's students have completed previous graduate work, but it is not required for entry into the program. Students take a wide variety of courses during their PhD program, but they all focus on the development and technology behind new enterprises. During the first two years, students complete the necessary coursework and complete a faculty-supervised research paper each summer. At the end of the second year, students take their final exam. After passing the exam, they spend the last two years writing the dissertation in their selected concentration.
