How to Get a Bachelor's Degree in Surgical Technology

According to the United States Department of Labor, surgical technologists, also referred to as scrubs or operating room technicians, are part of a surgical team. They are responsible for preparing the room, equipment and patient for surgery and for assisting during the surgery by passing instruments and surgical supplies to the surgeon. Following surgery, they may be responsible for transporting the patient to the recovery room and cleaning and restocking the operating room.

      Research accredited programs in surgical technology. Currently, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs lists only one program in surgical technology leading to a bachelor's degree. That program is at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan.

      Complete either the bachelor's program at Northern Michigan University or attend an accredited certificate or associate's degree program in surgical technology.

      Once obtaining an applied associate's degree in surgical technology, attend a bachelor's degree program in a related field such as biology, health education or chemistry.

      Complete certification testing from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, as according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, certification is preferred by most employers.
