Decide what schools offer a strong undergraduate finance degree. Compare the ones that seem most feasible monetarily and that best fit with your personal goals. Schedule a campus tour and meet with the faculty and staff in the business college. Also, talk to current students and get their take on the atmosphere.
Select a school and apply. Check with the university's admissions office for deadlines and what to submit. Follow all directions and meet all deadlines.
Meet with an academic adviser to learn what classes the finance degree requires, prior to registering. This meeting is sometimes part of the new student orientation. An adviser will guide you through the required courses and prerequisites.
Focus your studies on financial analysis and investing. Some courses most finance majors will encounter include Principles of Finance, Personal Finance, Money Markets, Investment Management, Risk Management and Real Estate Finance.
Review the degree plan before each semester during the advisement meeting. Consider a double major or minor in the closely related accounting field to further strengthen personal marketability upon graduation.
Complete all coursework including in most cases a senior capstone course. Ensure you maintain the minimum GPA required by the business college. When necessary, use tutors, study groups and professor's office hours.
