Decide what schools offering an Economics degree are feasible. The higher your high school ranking, the more likely you will be accepted and receive scholarships. Schedule a campus tour and meet with the economics faculty and staff. Ask for advice and the best core courses for an economics major to take the first couple years.

    • 2

Select a school and apply. An application will include test scores, a high school transcript, application fees and sometimes an essay. Check with the university's admissions office for deadlines and what to submit. Apply for financial aid, loans, grants, scholarships or work-study if needed.

    • 3

Meet with an academic adviser to learn what classes an Economics degree requires before classes begin. Register for classes and purchase books. Set a degree plan and review it with the adviser before registering for classes each semester because requirements change periodically.

    • 4

Complete all coursework with at least the minimum GPA required by the college. Typically an economics degree includes introductory coursework that explains theory at the micro and macro levels such as Principles of Economics, Measuring Economic Systems and Macroeconomics Principles.

    • 5

Progress to more advanced coursework examining and analyzing existing economic systems worldwide in classes such as International Economics. The final senior level of Economics coursework incorporates analysis and theory in classes such as Computational Economics and Monetary Economics.

    • 6

Take advantage of tutors, study groups and professor's office hours. These resources are available to help students navigate successfully through college, but the student needs to find them. Apply for graduation during senior year and receive a Bachelor's degree in economics at graduation.
