Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana, offers a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical science. Students in the program study not only aircraft systems and the scientific principles of flight, but also professional piloting. Among the courses required for the major are meteorology, safety, aviation power, flight operations, aviation law and resource management. Optional internships are available in the field. Students graduate with a commercial piloting license with instrument and multi-engine ratings in addition to their degrees. Students can also earn a flight instructor rating on their piloting license prior to graduation if they wish.

Located in Oakdale, New York, Dowling College offers a bachelor of science degree in aerospace systems technology. The program features classes in general aeronautics, regulations, aviation weather and safety, air traffic control, aerospace systems, data structures, network design, calculus and physics. Students who wish to earn a commercial piloting license have the option to minor in flight. A limited number of paid cooperative work placements are available in the field, allowing students to alternate semesters of working in aeronautics and attending classes throughout their time at Dowling.
