Carnegie Mellon University's College of Engineering offers bachelor of science degrees in materials science engineering and civil and environmental, electrical, chemical, and mechanical engineering. Students can apply to enter the school's five-year combined bachelor's and master's degree programs in any of these fields, or the five-year dual bachelor's and master of business administration degree program. Undergraduates can also study biomedical engineering or complete a double major in engineering and public policy. Students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher can participate in faculty research projects. All students can participate in undergraduate research symposiums. In 2009, Carnegie Mellon University tied for seventh in U.S. News & World Report magazine's ranking of undergraduate engineering programs.

Cornell University's College of Engineering contains academic divisions including applied and engineering physics, computer science, earth and atmospheric sciences, materials science and engineering, systems engineering, and operations research and information engineering. It also includes biological and environmental, chemical and biomolecular, civil and environmental, mechanical and aerospace, biomedical, and electrical engineering. Undergraduates work toward the bachelor of science degree with a specialization in one of the school's primary divisions. All students must complete core courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, writing, technical writing, computing, engineering and liberal studies in addition to the required courses for their chosen majors. Undergraduates can apply in their junior year to participate in the Kessler Fellows program, a one-year work-study program that provides students with business and entrepreneurship experience.
