Located in Vallejo, California Maritime is the only degree-granting maritime college on the West Coast. In 2010 U.S. News and World Report ranked it as the fifth-best Baccalaureate College in the west. The academy offers bachelor's degrees in international business and logistics, facilities engineering technology, global studies and maritime affairs, marine engineering technology, marine transportation, and mechanical engineering. Cal Maritime is accredited through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology and the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education. California Maritime also offers an athletics program which includes basketball, rugby, and sailing, as well as on-campus housing.

The first and largest maritime college in the U.S., SUNY Maritime is located in Throngs Neck, New York and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, training cruises to Europe, and U.S. Coast Guard license and intern programs. SUNY Maritime offers athletics, including swimming, basketball, baseball, cross country, football, rifle, sailing, and volleyball. SUNY Maritime is also home to the Empire State VI, which is the best equipped training group in the country, as well as the Center for Simulation and Marine Operation, which includes a full bridge simulator.
