The top nursing colleges in Florida offer a range of degrees. Students considering a career in nursing should understand the hierarchy of nursing degrees and the abbreviations for the degrees. The Associate Science in Nursing (ASN) comes first, with two years of study. A student may become a Registered Nurse (RN) after this degree or after the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

  1. University of Florida

    • The University of Florida offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through the College of Nursing. The BSN degree comes in generic or accelerated forms. The generic degree admits upper level UF students or those who transfer in at an upper level. Those who have a bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing may take the accelerated BSN program.

The MSN has tracks in clinical nursing and in clinical nurse leader generalist. This degree prepares interested students for postmaster's degree studies.

The DNP offers a generalized Postmaster's DNP track and a BSN to DNP track. The BSN to PhD track awards the student a Nursing Science PhD. The PhD is also available through distance education via the North Florida PhD Consortium, a cooperative of the top north Florida colleges.
