The University of Florida leads the list of the top colleges and universities in the state. The school is ranked 47th nationally by U.S. News & World Report. The University of Florida has an annual enrollment of more than 51,000 students. The school, which offers more than 150 research facilities, specializes in alternative energy research. Florida offers undergraduate degrees in more than 100 programs, 200 graduate degree programs and a number of doctoral degrees. The school fields 17 men's and women's athletic teams that compete on the Division I level of the NCAA. Florida is the only school in the history of the NCAA to win a national championship in football and basketball in the same year.

Miami is ranked 50 among the best school in the country, according to the report. Miami, which has almost 35,000 students each year, offers more than 115 undergraduate degree programs, more than 100 graduate programs and more than 50 doctoral programs. The school fields 15 men's and women's athletic teams that compete on the Division I level of the NCAA. Miami's athletic teams have won a total of 21 national championships.
