Top Ranked Florida Colleges

The state of Florida offers college students two of the best schools in the nation, according to annual national rankings. Two of Florida's colleges are ranked in the top 50 of the best schools of higher learning. A third Florida college is ranked just outside the top 100, but it offers educational opportunities for minority students pursuing professional degrees.
  1. University of Florida

    • The University of Florida leads the list of the top colleges and universities in the state. The school is ranked 47th nationally by U.S. News & World Report. The University of Florida has an annual enrollment of more than 51,000 students. The school, which offers more than 150 research facilities, specializes in alternative energy research. Florida offers undergraduate degrees in more than 100 programs, 200 graduate degree programs and a number of doctoral degrees. The school fields 17 men's and women's athletic teams that compete on the Division I level of the NCAA. Florida is the only school in the history of the NCAA to win a national championship in football and basketball in the same year.

    University of Miami

    • The University of Miami is only three spots behind the University of Florida in the U.S. News & World Report rankings of the best colleges and universities in the nation. Miami is ranked 50 among the best school in the country, according to the report. Miami, which has almost 35,000 students each year, offers more than 115 undergraduate degree programs, more than 100 graduate programs and more than 50 doctoral programs. The school fields 15 men's and women's athletic teams that compete on the Division I level of the NCAA. Miami's athletic teams have won a total of 21 national championships.

    Florida State University

    • Diversity is a key element of Florida State University, which is number 102 in the nation in the U.S. News & World Report's ranking of the best colleges and universities. Florida State, which has around 40,000 students annually, is ranked in the top ten for schools that produce Hispanic medicine and law school graduates each year. Florida State offers 88 undergraduate degrees, 102 graduate degrees and 69 doctoral and professional degrees. The school fields 17 men's and women's athletic teams that compete on the Division I level of the NCAA. Florida State's athletic teams have produced 59 athletes who are playing professional sports in 2010.
