While rooted in a Catholic tradition, the theology and religious studies program at St. John's University is inclusive of coursework spanning the broad spectrum of theological thought across a myriad of religions. The institution offers certificate, undergraduate and master's degree programs in Theology. Study areas include interfaith history, moral theology, contemporary systematic theology, liturgy and pastoral theology. The College of Saint Benedict for women and St. John's University for men both offer a bachelor's degree program in theology structure to prepare students for graduate level work in the discipline. The major is available with a concentration in pastoral ministry or with a minor in secondary education and taught in coeducational courses inclusive of students from both schools. The College of St. Benedict is home to the Diekmann Center of theological studies and the Dignitas Humana Initiative, which brings major speakers from the field to campus annually and furnishes workshops in liturgy and social justice. Curriculum includes philosophy for theology and a historical survey of western philosophy.

The theology bachelor's degree program at Hanover College in Hanover, Ind., offers students a strong foundation in the discipline that covers the role of theology in history, ethics, literature, geography, politics and art. The program is divided into four particular areas of study: biblical studies, contemporary theology, ethics and historical theology.
