List of Nursing Schools in Ohio

The state of Ohio is home to several prominent schools of nursing. In fact, 11 schools were ranked nationally by "U.S. News & World Report" in 2007, and of these, three were in the top-100. Ohio nursing schools are among the best in the nation because they offer students a wide variety of degree programs to choose and the opportunity to pursue advanced nursing degrees at the doctoral level.
  1. Case Western Reserve University

    • Case Western Reserve University's (CWRU) school of nursing is regarded as the best nursing school in the state of Ohio. "U.S. News & World Report" ranked the nursing school No. 15 in the nation among all nursing programs in 2007. CWRU offers a full array of degree programs for nursing students at every level.

      For entering undergraduates or transfer students, the school offers the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree (BSN). The school also offers a Master of Science degree (MSN) with a direct-entry option for students with bachelor's degrees in another field who wish to the master's degree program. The university also offers both a doctor of nursing practice and a PhD. Notable are the sub-specialties in the master's degree program. Students can pursue specializations in acute care, gerontology, neonatal nursing, women's health nursing, family practice and pediatric nursing.

    Ohio State University

    • Ohio State University also is among the best nursing programs in the nation as a top 40 nursing school. Ohio State also offers students a multitude of degree programs at both the baccalaureate and graduate levels.

      Undergraduate nursing students pursue the BSN degree. Ohio State also offers a degree completion program for registered nurses with an associate's degree. The MSN program offers a multitude of nursing specialties such as nursing science, clinical nurse leader, clinical nurse specialist, nursing and health system management and nurse practitioner.

      The nurse practitioner program also has several specializations as well such as family practice, women's health, adult psychiatric mental health, nurse midwifery,n eonatal nurse practitioner and pediatric nursing. Both the PhD and the DNP degree are offered at the doctoral level.

    University of Cincinnati

    • The University of Cincinnati (UC), similar to the programs at Ohio State and Case Western Reserve, is a highly respected program known for its various degree programs at all levels. UC offers both the traditional BSN track and the degree completion program for registered nurses.

      A bridge program also is available for registered nurses who want to enter directly into the master's degree program and complete their education. An accelerated program is available for students entering the nursing field with a bachelor's degree in another field.

      Master's programs are offered both on campus and through distance education. A number of specialties are available such as adult acute care, women's health, pediatric nursing, midwifery, family practice, nurse anesthesia, nursing education, administration and psychiatric care. Students can also pursue either the DNP or the PhD as well as a number of post-master's nursing certificates.
