Colleges That Will Help Me Become a Home Economics Teacher

Home economics, also known as family and consumer sciences, is offered in a lot of high schools throughout the United States. Teachers of home economics are expected to provide students with basic life skills in the areas of cooking and nutrition, sewing, child development, and budgeting and consumer education.

    • The College of Education and Human Services at Ferris State University offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. As part of the program, students are trained in child care, food management, life management, and other basic areas of family and consumer sciences. Students who enroll in the program are required to have at least two years of home economics experience or complete a home economics internship before completing the program. The program also includes a required semester of student teaching in home economics.
