Stanford University's School of Education is one of the best in the nation. "U.S. News & World Report" ranked the Stanford program at No. 2 overall, making it the highest rated education department in the state of California. Stanford is renowned for its science and engineering programs, but they have also engineered innovation through research in the science of teaching. Because of Stanford's commitment to excellence in other areas, its bachelor's degree program in education is an honors track that is pursued in conjunction with studies in another academic field. This means that students can pursue a degree in any field and supplement their work in that field with research and coursework from the education department. Students can also pursue education as a minor. At the graduate level, Stanford offers the teacher education program for elementary and secondary teaching en route to state certification requirements. It also offers additional degrees in the areas of international comparative education, international education administration and policy analysis, curriculum and teacher education and learning design and technology. Students can also pursue the master's degree in conjunction with a J.D. in law education or the MBA degree through the business school. Stanford also offers 21 different doctoral degrees in the field of education.
