Located in Cobb County, Kennesaw, Georgia, traces its history back to the 1830s, when railways were just forming. Originally known as Big Shanty for its connection to the railroad, the city is located near Kennesaw Mountain. Kennsaw prides itself on its education initiatives, stating on its website that the city's future depends on the ability to have a "quality education for all." To that degree, Kennesaw offers a fine array of colleges and universities.

    • Kennesaw State University is a 384-acre campus situated northwest of Atlanta and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Boasting more than 22,000 undergraduates and graduates, the university claims on its website that it is the third-largest university in the Peach State and offers 70 bachelor's, master's and doctorate degree programs. Undergraduate degree programs offered include English, economics, biology, education and sports management. Graduate degrees are awarded in areas like nursing, business, education, social work and public administration. The university website states that the institute has the largest nursing program in Georgia and its executive MBA program is the second largest in the nation.

      Students have the opportunity to participate in more than 150 student groups and organizations. Athletically, the institute participates in NCAA Division I in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Established in 1963 as a junior college, the institute began offering four-year degrees in 1976.

    ITT Technical Institute

    • ITT Technical Institute in Kennesaw opened its doors in 2004 as a branch of ITT Educational Services, Inc., a private college system that concentrates on technology-related areas of study. Students may enroll in associate of science degree or bachelor of science degree programs. The Kennesaw school offers associate of science degree programs in areas that include computer and electronics engineering technology, computer drafting and design and information technology. Bachelor of science degree programs are available in areas like construction management, digital entertainment and game design and information systems security. ITT Technical Institute is accredited by the Accredited Council for Independent Colleges and Schools.

    Cobb Beauty College

    • Cobb Beauty College opened in 1980 and offers programs in cosmetology in a 5,000 square-foot facility. Full and part-time schedules are available to allow students to learn cosmetology at their own pace. Licensed through the state of Georgia and nationally accredited by the Council of Occupational Education, the school offers classes taught by state-certified instructors. New classes start the first Tuesday of each month.
