    • Anne Arundel Community College offers an Interior Design Certificate, Associate in Applied Sciences Degree or an Advanced Interior Design Certificate. The Interior Design Certificate program is a 35 credit hour program, which can be completed within two-to-four semesters. Upon graduating with this certificate, students will be able to apply for entry-level interior designer work.

      The Associate in Applied Sciences in Interior Design is a two-year 68-credit hour program, which prepares students for enrollment in advanced-level interior design training programs. This program teaches students basic fundamentals in interior design as well as advanced-level techniques. Upon completing this AA degree, students can transfer credits to complete a bachelor's degree or enroll in the Advanced Interior Design Certificate.

      The Advanced Interior Design Certificate builds on the knowledge taught during the two-year AA degree. This 33 credit hour program is split into two terms. The first term focuses on advanced residential design, interior construction detailing, kitchen/bath designs, history of textiles, color and ornament as well as compiling a visual portfolio. During the second term students focus on lighting techniques, advanced commercial design, professional practices/standards and sustainable interior designs.

      The tuition for Anne Arundel County residents is $88 per credit hour, while residents in other Maryland counties must pay $169 per credit hour. Out-of-state residents must pay $299 per credit hour. All tuition costs are effective as of 2010.

    Montgomery College

    • Montgomery College offers students the choice of two associate degrees and three certificate options within interior design. The Associate of Arts in Interior Design is a pre-professional degree program outlined for students wishing to continue their education at an in-state four-year institute. Coursework within this degree option concentrates on general studies as well as foundational knowledge and skills within interior decorating. Students must complete a total of 62 credit hours to graduate with an A.A. in Interior Design.

      Associate of Arts and Sciences in Interior Design is developed for students wishing to continue their education at an out-of-state four-year institution or gain entry-level positions within a interior design firm. Coursework within this program focuses on fundamental and intermediate-level interior design techniques as well as technical development. Students enrolled in this program can select between two educational pathways, which include the General Track or the NKBA Track. The General Track allows students to select nine professional electives. The NKBA Track allows students to be endorsed by the National Kitchen and Bath Association as elective coursework consists of NKBA endorsement-required courses. Students must complete 62 credit hours to graduate with an A.A.S. in Interior Design.

      The three certifications Montgomery College offers include: Introductory Interior Design Certificate, Advanced Interior Design Certificate and the Design Industry Partnership Certificate. The 30 credit hour Introductory Interior Design Certificate is designed for students with no design experience who wish to make a career change into the interior design industry. The Advanced Interior Design Certificate consists of 30 hours of coursework developed for students already working within the interior design field. Lastly, the Design Industry Partnership Certificate has been created for working professionals in a field that requires close working relationships with interior designers. This 30 credit hour certification program teaches professional design principles and techniques.

      Tuition for Montgomery County residents is $171 per credit hour. Maryland residents who residing outside of Montgomery County must pay $283 per credit hour while non-Maryland residents $372 per credit hour, as of 2010.

    Harford Community College

    • Harford Community Colleges offers an Associate of Applied Sciences in Interior Design to prepare students for assistant-level employment at an interior design firm or for transfer purposes to a four-year institution. Coursework within this 65 credit hour program consist of theoretical lectures backed by hands on practicum lab courses. All courses have been designed to provide students will a well-rounded knowledge of the interior design industry, which include the fundamentals of design as well as the history of furniture and interior design. The tuition for this program, as of 2010, is $82 per credit hour for Harford County residents or $164 for non Harford County Maryland residents.
