Paul Quinn College is the only HBCU located in Dallas, Texas. Paul Quinn was founded in 1872 by a group of African Methodist Episcopal preachers. According to its mission, the college provides “faith based education” that provides for the “academic, social and Christian development of students.”
Paul Quinn College is a four-year institution offering Bachelor of Science degrees in three departments: science and technology, business and education. Within the science and technology department, students may major in biology or computer science. The business department offers majors in accounting, management and legal studies. The education department offers students majors in interdisciplinary studies, physical education and a post-baccalaureate program.

Southwestern Christian College (SWCC) is an HBCU located 38 miles outside of Dallas in Terrell, Texas. The college was founded and sponsored by members of Churches of Christ. According to its mission statement, the school’s purpose is to offer an educational program that will prepare students for “effective and successful Christian living.”
SWCC is a four-year college limited to a bachelor's in bible and religious education. The school also offers a two-year associate program in the liberal arts. At SWCC, a student may obtain a Bachelor of Science, Associate of Science, or Associate of Arts.
