Buffalo State offers a three-year Master of Art program in Art Conservation. The first year of the program focuses on courses that will teach students about examination and documentation and conservation science. In the second year, students will continue taking general courses but must also take courses in an area of specialization. The third and final year of the program involves in an internship in a museum where the students will receive hands-on, practical training. Although students will graduate with an MA, many of the courses are science-based so they can understand and feel confident when working with conservation scientists.

Students must take courses in both art history and art conservation. The program also has ties with New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art, giving students access to numerous works and art conservation experts.
