Southeast Missouri State University (SMSU) in Cape Girardeau offers a Master of Science in Technology Management that provides students with the necessary background to qualify as a health inspector. This program is designed for students with diverse backgrounds who may not have any experience in the field. The broad "technology management" designation makes this degree highly marketable in areas outside of occupational health and safety such as industrial education management. One field of concentration within the program, however, is the field of workplace environment and health safety. This concentration requires courses in areas such as introduction to toxicology, industrial hygiene, hazardous material assessment, risk management applications and occupational health.
