The Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Chicago provides several degree options. The undergraduate major and minor programs offer a wide selection of courses, including Latin American civilization and politics, the Spanish empire, Inca and Aztec states, pre-Columbian civilization, Mexican history, Central American history, developmental economics, human rights and various Latin American languages. A research-intensive Master of Arts degree is also available.

DePaul University offers both an undergraduate major and minor program in Latin American and Latino Studies. Both programs require coursework in social diversity, multiculturalism, mythology and cultural conquest, cultural studies and senior-level Spanish. Students may concentrate their studies in one of four areas: historical processes and interpretations of the Americas, contemporary transformations in the Americas, cultural studies of the Americas and Latina/o studies. Course topics include art history, political science, history, archaeology, ethnography, literature, film studies and religion.

Northeastern Illinois University offers a minor option in Latino and Latin American studies. A major program is currently in development. The minor consists of coursework in introductory Latino and Latin American studies, Latino culture and history, a professional internship experience and several electives. Course topics include the Chicano movement, Puerto Ricans and the Caribbean, race and gender issues, anthropology, literature, historical studies and political science.

Course topics include Puerto Rican and Mexican studies, indigenous culture, cultural studies, music, history, comparative politics, literature, Caribbean geography, sociology, the history of Latinos in Chicago, art history and ancient archaeology.
