ROTC Summer Schools

Many colleges and universities in the United States offer Reserve Officers' Training Corps programs for students aspiring to become officers in the U.S. armed forces. ROTC programs provide leadership training and skills to future Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard officers. Many schools either require or recommend ROTC summer training programs.
  1. U.S. Army ROTC Leader Development and Assessment Course

    • The Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as Operation Warrior Forge, is a five-week program designed for Army ROTC cadets. Students enrolled in an ROTC program at an accredited university often complete the course between their junior and senior years. The course is offered at Fort Lewis in Washington. Its main focus is to cultivate leadership ability in aspiring officers. The Warrior Forge training program is mentally and physically demanding, and often places students under stressful simulations of combat situations to gauge their reactions.

U.S. Air Force ROTC Summer Programs

    • The Air Force has its own summer programs for students enrolled in ROTC programs. They include programs related to parachuting, space orientation, special investigation, combat training, cadet language immersion, civil engineering, nurse orientation and international immersion. The summer programs are not required, but they offer ROTC students the chance to enhance their skills or pick up a specialization in the field between regular semester courses.

All summer programs are divided into three categories. The first category, basic courses, is open to general military and Professional Officer Course students; the second category is open only to Professional Officer Course students; and the third, most advanced category is open to Professional Office Course students on an Air Force ROTC scholarship.
