Schools in Chicago With a Health Information Technology Major

The Illinois Department of Employment Services predicts that the demand for medical records and health information technicians will increase by more than 16 percent from 2008 through 2018. Entry into this field typically requires a post-secondary degree, preferably from a school accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). These private and public institutions teach students the skills necessary to develop, use and maintain the software programs used by hospitals and other medical providers to store and access patient medical information.
