A private, nonsectarian institution, New York University is home to more than 43,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The college's Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management offers a bachelor of science degree program in hotel and tourism management. Founded in 1897, the Wood Tobe-Coburn School is a private, for-profit career training school. The college offers both a certificate and an associate degree in travel and hospitality. The programs last 10 to 14 months depending on the course of study and whether students take classes on a full- or part-time basis. The program covers event planning and management, guest relations, sales and customer service. All students in the program complete an externship prior to graduation. The school offers job placement assistance, such as help with resume writing and interview preparation.

Located in the New York City borough of Brooklyn at Manhattan Beach, Kingsborough Community College is a public, two-year institution. The college offers an associate degree program tourism and hospitality. All students take classes in destination geography, tourism and hospitality technology, tourism business, computer science and management or entrepreneurship. Students then further specialize in tourism, taking classes in cruises and aviation, or hospitality, completing course work in restaurant and hotel management, even planning and catering management. Both specializations require students to participate in an internship prior to graduation. The program also gives students to the option to complete an independent research project related to their interests.
