The oldest art school in New Zealand, and among the world's oldest continuously-running institutions, Canterbury School of Fine Arts was established in 1882, then called the Canterbury College School of Art. Part of Canterbury University, the school offers open cross-enrollment to all its students so they may benefit from course offerings in other colleges.
