Accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the Art Institute of Portland offers both associate's and bachelor's degrees. An A.A. can be earned in apparel accessory design, apparel design, culinary arts, graphic design, and web design and interactive media. The B.A. is offered in those areas of study as well as several other commercial art areas such as industrial design, interior design, media arts, animation and photography.
George Fox University in Newberg is a Christian university of 1,700 students. Offering bachelor's degrees in graphic design, studio arts, and art history, it's was ranked among the top 150 Christian colleges in the U.S. by "Forbes" in 2010. Studio arts majors can specialize in painting, ceramics, drawing, photography, mixed media or printmaking. Graphic arts majors have hands-on classes using industry-standard software. Seniors have the opportunity to set up their own studio space in the art annex.
Oregon State University, located in Corvallis, offers a B.F.A. in fine art and graphic design, and a B.A. and B.S. in art history, graphic design and fine art. The Art Department has about 360 art majors and minors, making it one of the largest departments in the College of Liberal Arts at OSU, which has a student body of more than 20,000.
Located in Portland, the Oregon College of Arts & Crafts is the only private art college west of the Mississippi. The OCAC offers an M.F.A. in applied craft design and a B.F.A. in crafts. The college also offers a three-year certificate program in crafts with no general studies and a one-year post-B.A. certificate in crafts. The programs are intended to enable students to make a living in crafts such as ceramics, fibers, metalwork, wood, painting and drawing. Group projects enable students to use a variety of disciples in furniture design and architectural work.
An independent institution, Pacific University is located in Forest Grove and has total enrollment of 3,167. The art program offers both a major or minor in fine art, graphic arts and media arts. Specialized classes are offered to students through a cooperative program with Oregon School of Arts and Crafts.
Reed College in Portland is an independent school that offers bachelor's degrees in studio art and art history. The University of Oregon in Eugene offers bachelor's degrees in art, art history, ceramics, digital arts, fiber arts, metalsmithing and jewelry, painting, photography, printmaking, product design and sculpture. Western Oregon University in Monmouth offers a B.F.A. in art as well as B.A. and B.S. in a variety of art-related concentrations.
