DIY Graduation Announcements

Graduation is a wonderful time for students. Whether you're graduating from high school or college, it's common to send out announcements to family and friends to let them know about your special day. These announcements let friends and family know that you have graduated and often inspire them to give you a gift or money to help you after graduation. Schools often sell announcements, but these are generic and don't give specific details about you. They are also expensive. Follow these steps to create a personal, inexpensive graduation announcement.

Instructions

    • 1

Open up the word processing program on your computer. Open a new document. Change the paper size to 8½-inch-by-5½-inch. Make sure the paper is in Portrait orientation.

    • 2

Type in the message you would like in the inside of the card. Start halfway down the page. Include your name, graduation date, school you are graduating from and years attended. Include a brief paragraph about your activities at school -- include sports you played, clubs you were active in and classes you enjoyed. Include your major and your degree earned. Include your address in small print along the bottom of the card -- this will let friends and family know where to send gifts.

    • 3

Align all of the text along the left-hand side of the card. Place your photo on the right-hand side, in line horizontally with the first text.

    • 4

Place the card stock in the printer, and print the inside of the card onto it. Wait two to three minutes to ensure that the text and photo ink is dry, then fold the card in half by bringing the top part down.

    • 5

On the cover of the card, write a title such as " A Graduation Announcement" or "(Your Name) Graduates". Decorate the cover with graduation stickers, or make a graduation hat out of glue and glitter. Using a glue stick, draw a graduation cap with tassle. Then sprinkle glitter over the the glue until enough sticks. Let it dry. You also could use clip art of a graduation cap on the cover -- use some sort of image that conveys graduation. Add additional stickers or other decorations to the inside of the card.

Place the cards in envelopes, and add addresses and stamps to the outside. Drop them off at the post office within two weeks of your graduation date.
