Kenai Peninsula College, operated in conjunction with the University of Alaska-Anchorage, has the largest community college campus in Anchorage. In fact, it has two campuses: a Kenai River campus and a smaller Kachemak Bay campus in Homer, Alaska. KPC specializes in applied sciences, offering associate's degrees in computer electronics, office systems, digital art, business, early childhood development, radiology, nursing, paramedical technology and more, as well as selected bachelor's degrees, through the University of Alaska, in art, elementary education, biology, natural sciences and psychology.
Mat-Su is a smaller community college boasting an average class size of only 14 students. Its focus is arts and applied science. It offers associate's degree programs in refrigeration and heating, architectural engineering, veterinary assistance, computer systems, renewable energy, small business administration, general business, accounting, paramedical technology and human services. Mat-Su also offers a variety of certificate programs in skills training required for specific sectors of the workforce. These are offered in many of the same areas as the associate's degree programs, but require fewer credits and usually only one year to complete the training.
Kodiak College is a small community college on Kodiak Island, south of Anchorage. It is a satellite campus of the University of Alaska-Anchorage and offers associate's degrees in accounting, art, computer information and office systems, technology, elementary education, general business and nursing. It is more remote than other Anchorage colleges, but offers more opportunities for outdoor experiences.
PWSCC is a small college of 1,400 students east of Anchorage. It offers five baccalaureate programs in conjunction with the University of Alaska-Anchorage as well as associate's degrees. PWSCC is the only community college connected with UAA to offer an associate's degree in fine arts, play writing and disability services. It also offers a certificate program in oil spill response, an issue of particular importance to Alaska.
Charter College, a private career college with campuses across the United States, has an Anchorage location. It offers training in accounting, massage therapy, criminal justice, dental assistance, business, legal assistance, medical insurance coding and billing and more. Online and distance study programs are also available in Anchorage at these career colleges: Kaplan, ITT Tech and DeVry.
