The college is known for having small class sizes and a high faculty-student ratio for its 600 residential students. Waldorf offers undergraduate degrees in more than 30 programs, including music, theater, English, media, education, social work, psychology and business. The college added numerous online-only or dual online-campus bachelor's degree programs, including business administration, fire science administration and organizational leadership. Waldorf provides all campus students with laptop computers.
Students at Waldorf have numerous choices of music and drama programs open to both majors and non-majors. The college has three vocal groups, including one of the oldest a cappella choirs in the country, active since 1916. Dramatists can pursue concentrations in acting/directing or playwriting. Waldorf is one of only two colleges in the nation to offer a Shakespeare minor.
Waldorf offers men's baseball, football, wrestling and hockey, as well as women's softball and volleyball. The college also has basketball, golf, soccer, bowling and cross-country for both men and women. The college added varsity women's wrestling in 2010 to 2011. Waldorf is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in the Midwest Collegiate Conference.
Graduates of Waldorf College include Brad Anderson, now-retired CEO of consumer electronics retailer Best Buy Co., Inc.; John K. Hanson, founder of RV manufacturer Winnebago Industries, Inc., still located in Forest City; Irving "Bud" Alne, former executive of aerospace company Lockheed Corporation before it merged with Martin Marietta; and Dennis N. Highby, vice chairman and former CEO of outdoor recreation retailer Cabela's.
Waldorf College is located in Forest City. a small town of about 4,500 residents amidst north-central Iowa's corn and soybean agricultural areas. It is about halfway between Minneapolis to the north and Des Moines to the south, near the Winnebago River.
