The University of Florida has two primary colors that are its official colors -- orange and blue. Although the manufacturing of apparel and other items does not always allow for an exact match, with manufacturers simply using approximations of the Florida blue and orange colors, the official designations are Pantone 172 for the orange and Pantone 287 for the blue. For digital use, the orange is code "#FF4A00" while blue is "#0021A5."
The colors came to be the official colors of the University of Florida in 1910, as a result of the coming together of two different universities. Blue was adopted from the University of Florida at Lake City, which had school colors of blue and white. The orange came from Gainesville's East Florida Seminary, which had school colors of orange and black.
The school uses its colors as part of its official school signature. The signature comes in two forms, with both featuring a "UF" monogram, and a two-line writing of "University of Florida." While the school allows for black or white versions if the school colors cannot be applied, when using color the only acceptable representation is blue and orange.
The school colors are also incorporated into the athletics programs at University of Florida. The school logo, an alligator head, features green for the alligator but also an orange ring, with blue backing, behind the alligator. The sports teams all wear some combination of blue and orange in their uniforms. In most sports, blue is the primary color while orange is used as a trim color.
