Clearwater Christian College is a nondenominational liberal-arts school accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Undergraduate degrees are offered in 60 programs, and there is one graduate program offered. The Clearwater campus of St Petersburg College offers baccalaureate programs in a variety of disciplines, and delivers graduate programs from other schools through its University Partnership Center. Nearby Largo also has a campus of Everest University (formerly Florida Metropolitan University), which offers a variety of degrees. Everest is a privately owned for-profit chain of universities.
Tampa and St Petersburg are close enough to Clearwater to provide additional options for students. Notable schools in the immediate Tampa area include the University of South Florida, Stetson Law School and the University of Tampa. South Florida and Tampa offer a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees in a wide range of disciplines, with South Florida having somewhat tougher application standards. Stetson Law School is the oldest law school in Florida, and has a distinguished list of alumni.
St. Petersburg is home to the main campus of St. Petersburg College, which offers a wider range of programs than the Clearwater Campus. A campus of the University of South Florida is also located in St. Petersburg. Eckerd College, formerly Florida Presbyterian College, is an undergraduate school with strong offerings in adult education and continuing education.
It is hard to say that one or another school is the "best" in its area. Some schools may command greater respect from the community, but in practice quality of instruction will vary from one program to another even in the best schools. When researching the best available schools in your area, it is important to look at the reputation of the individual programs, more so than the school. That doesn't mean your school's reputation is unimportant, but be sure to choose based on the quality of the program you want to take.
