What Are the Requirements for Morris Brown College?

Morris Brown College, founded in 1881, is a coeducational private liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia, and was the first college to have an all African-American student body. In the early 2000s, the college was embroiled in a criminal and fiscal scandal. The college lost its accreditation, which it has yet to get back, and students are unable to receive state or financial aid to attend the school, although the school does offer its own financial aid and scholarships. The school's main academic focus is on leadership, management, entrepreneurship and technology.
  1. General Admission Requirements

    • While Morris Brown is historically considered a black college, it does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, creed, gender or physical disability. The deadlines to apply are May 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. Students who knowingly withhold information or give false information may automatically have their application revoked.

Each applicant that has graduated from high school or taken the GED successfully must also take either the ACT or SAT test. If you are a transfer student with less than 30 semester credit hours, you must submit your ACT or SAT scores with your application. The admissions decision is based on high school grade point average, standardized test score, writing ability and letters of recommendation. Students must also have at least 12 of the 13 basic education units that include but are not limited to English, mathematics, natural sciences and social science.

    First-Year Admission

    • An applicant who wishes to apply to Morris Brown College for her first year of undergraduate education can apply as early as her sixth semester of high school. She will need a completed and signed admission application, an official high school transcript that is signed and bears the official school seal, or an official GED score that indicates she passed the high school equivalency test. She will need to provide her official ACT and SAT scores and two letters of recommendation from either a religious leader or a professional of academic administration. She will also need to include an autobiography or essay that is at least 300 words. Finally, she needs to provide a copy of her birth certificate, Social Security card and a non-refundable application fee of $30.

    Transfer Admission

    • A transfer student will need an official transcript from previously attended undergraduate schools. If he has completed less than 30 transferable credit hours, he also will need to submit his official high school transcript with his date of graduation, or his GED score report. He will also need to have a Dean's Information Form that is completed by the dean or registrar of his most recently attended school. He will need one letter of recommendation, a (minimum) 300-word essay or autobiography and copies of his personal identification materials, such as birth certificate and Social Security card. He will also need to pay the non-refundable $30 application fee.

    Minimum Scores

    • As of 2010, Morris Brown College had no minimum scores (GPA/SAT/ACT) listed for its entrance requirements.
