Ohio State University offers undergraduate major and minors in medieval and Renaissance studies as well as a graduate certificate programs through its Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Founded in 1965, the center is an interdisciplinary unit in the school's College of Humanities. It publishes a twice-quarterly newsletter, "Nouvelles Nouvelles", and serves as the headquarters of the New Chaucer Society. Students can access the Resource Center for Medieval Slavic Studies, which contains microfilms of over 4,000 medieval manuscripts. The Center for Epigraphical and Palaeographical Studies is the place to find an extensive collection of books, monographs and reproductions linked to western manuscripts created between 400 A.D. and 1600 A.D.
Cleveland State University students can obtain a bachelor of arts in classical and medieval studies. The degree is supported by eight academic areas within the university's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, including art, English, history, modern languages, music, philosophy, religious studies and dramatic arts. Students can take classes related to classical literature and poetry or study the cultures of the Mediterranean, Europe and the Middle East during a time period ranging from eighth century BCE to 15th century CE. The CSU Library has a classical and medieval studies collection that has over 6,000 volumes in Library of Congress classifications dealing with the subject areas.
Ohio Wesleyan University is a private college in the city of Delaware where you can find the Ancient, Medieval, and Renaissance Studies Program. Students who participate in the program can major in ancient, medieval or Renaissance studies. Each of the majors contains a total of 12 courses that include three foundation courses, six core courses and two elective courses. Students also can earn minors in the same areas. To earn a minor, a student must take six courses: two foundation course, two core courses and two elective courses.
The University of Toledo offers a Medieval and Renaissance Studies degree that requires 60 hours of study. The humanities major includes 12 hours of history courses, 39 hours in electives and a final project worth nine hours. Students are required to read one of the learned or vernacular languages of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance other than modern English.
