Colleges Around Columbus, Georgia

Columbus, Georgia, is situated at the state's border with Alabama. The city has a number of higher education institutions, including four colleges and universities. Two additional institutions are located just across the Chattahoochee River in neighboring Phenix City, Alabama. These colleges and universities confer associate, technical, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in a range of disciplines.
  1. Columbus State University

    • Established in 1958, Columbus State University (CSU) offers programs in a range of disciplines, including arts, business, education and nursing. In the 2010-11 academic year, the university offered 46 undergraduate and 42 graduate degree programs. The university's campus is located northwest of downtown, and the CSU RiverPark, the university's fine and performing arts campus, occupies historic downtown buildings. The RiverPark campus also contains student housing and a space science center.

    Columbus Technical College

    • Part of the Georgia System of Technical Colleges, Columbus Technical College opened in 1961. The college confers diplomas, certificates and associate's degrees in applied business, health sciences and professional and technical services. Majors include nursing, education, criminal justice and business studies, as well as a wide range of technical studies, from air conditioning repair to welding and joining technology. The college's campus is located north of downtown Columbus.

    Chattahoochee Valley Community College

    • Chattahoochee Valley Community College was established in 1973 and is located across the Chattahoochee River on a 103-acre campus in Phenix City, Alabama. Each year the college enrolls approximately 2,000 students. Students can enroll in two-year Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees, as well as career programs leading to the Associate in Applied Science degree. Short-term, intensive certificate programs are also available at the college.

    Georgia Military College

    • Established in 1879, the Georgia Military College is a liberal arts junior college based at the Old Capitol Building in Milledgeville, Georgia. It operates six campuses, including one in Columbus. The college confers Associate of Science degrees in a range of disciplines, including business administration, criminal justice, education, general studies, health and physical education, history, homeland security and emergency management, information technology, paralegal studies, pre-nursing, psychology and sociology.
