The University of Missouri's College of Human Environmental Sciences offers an interior design degree as part of its Department of Architecture. The program is rigorous and only accepts 40 students based on portfolios, academic record and ACT scores. Students who are accepted gain extensive hands-on experience working with clients on real-world projects and receive a Bachelor of Science degree once they've completed the program.

It is the only state school in Missouri to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Stephens is a women's college in Columbia that was founded in 1833. It offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design. Some of the courses include theory, textiles, material fundamentals, hand and computer-generated drawing as well as lighting. Aspects of commercial, residential, health-care and retail design are covered. Stephens offers a bachelor's plus master's program that allows students to finish both degrees in five years.
Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau offers a Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Studies with an Interior Design option. The program prepares students to work in residential or commercial settings. Internships are offered with local companies for hands-on experience.
