North Carolina Engineering Colleges That Offer Air Force ROTC

Air Force ROTC provides training for college students seeking to ultimately become Air Force officers. The programs are part of a student's studies, so engineering majors are able to receive a bachelor's degree and an Air Force commission at the same time. In North Carolina, seven colleges offer Air Force ROTC, four of which contain a College of Engineering.
  1. Duke University

    • Duke University in Durham offers Air Force ROTC for all students, including those enrolled in the Pratt School of Engineering. Duke offers majors in biomedical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, material sciences and electrical and computer engineering. The engineering school also has a graduate school that confers master's degrees in engineering management.

    North Carolina A&T State University

    • North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro is an historically black college that offers engineering programs through its College of Engineering. The school is a leading producer of African-American engineers on the bachelor's, master's and doctoral level. During the 2009-2010 school year, a total of 176 bachelor's degrees, 58 master's degrees and 14 Ph.D.s were awarded by the College of Engineering. For select Air Force ROTC students who receive an ROTC four-year scholarship, the school provides free room and board.

    UNC Charlotte

    • The William States Lee College of Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte offers five degree programs: civil and environmental engineering, electrical and computer engineering, engineering technology and construction management, mechanical engineering and engineering science, and systems engineering and engineering management. The school's civil and environmental engineering department has awarded more than 1,000 bachelor's degrees since its inception in 1970. The department currently awards bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. degrees and is considered one of the top 50 engineering programs in the U.S.

    North Carolina State University

    • The engineering school at North Carolina State University in Raleigh has 12 departments, making it the engineering college in North Carolina with the most programs. Departments that offer training only found in Raleigh are aerospace engineering, nuclear engineering, paper science and engineering, chemical and biomolecular engineering, and textile engineering. More than 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students study in the College of Engineering, taught by over 900 faculty members.
