How to Get Into a Teacher's College

Teachers' colleges are centers for higher education dedicated to the training of teachers. Traditionally these places were called Normal Schools, a term that is still occasionally used today. Because of economic reasons, stand-alone teachers' colleges have in many cases either closed or expanded to include other departments of higher learning. Modern teaching colleges are usually part of a larger university and are often now referred to as the College of Education or Department of Education.

Instructions

    • 1

Attend a university that has a department deducted to education. Many universities will have an education program that trains and certifies students to teach in a specific age range, such as preschool, primary school or secondary school.

    • 2

Research the university's education programs. Some programs will have entrance requirements that go above and beyond the requirements for other programs at that university. Some programs may require certain classes to be completed or a certain grade point average to be attained before acceptance into the education program.

    • 3

Meet the basic entrance requirements for the program. Depending on the requirements, extra classes can be taken to quickly raise a grade point average. Standardized tests can be retaken to meet a minimum score requirement.
