Lewis & Clark College (http://www.lclark.edu/) offers a music major with concentrations in composition, music education, musicology, ethnomusicology and performance. Students enrolled in the program take weekly lessons in their performance area and study musicianship, theory, literature, world music, conducting and instrumentation. Students also receive opportunities for off-campus and overseas studies, including a spring-semester program to London every second year. Near the end of the program, students participate in senior projects such as a music education program, thesis or recital to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
Portland Community College (http://www.pcc.edu/) offers a music program designed to prepare students for transferring to a four-year institution to major or minor in music. The program curriculum focuses on developing the aural skills necessary to be a well-rounded and successful musician. Students enrolled in the program learn music theory, applied instrumental or vocal performance and piano keyboard proficiency. Music students also receive opportunities to perform and participate in Art Beat Week, an annual festival of arts and music, as well as the school's Chamber Chorus, Symphonic Band, Voices of Soul Chorus and Chamber Ensemble.
Warner Pacific College (http://www.warnerpacific.edu/) offers a music major program, with concentrations in music studies, music theory/composition and music performance. Students enrolled in the program learn conducting, the different structures of music, how to write music, the principles of music history and various styles of music. Students also receive the opportunity to perform different styles of music such as jazz, popular, Christian and classical, in small and large ensembles as well as in a solo capacity.
Reed College (http://www.reed.edu/) offers a music major program designed to encourage and develop the skills and knowledge of students pursuing a career in music. The program curriculum includes music history and theory studies, a wide variety of private lessons and performance opportunities. Students enrolled in the program learn the basic elements of music, principles of melodic construction, ethnomusicology, music and globalization, composition, world music and the different styles and genres of music.
