How to Curl Big Waves

Big, tousled waves -- glamorous, yet seemingly effortless and slightly unruly -- are one of the sexiest ways that you can wear your hair. Alas, as with many beautiful things, big waves are not easily obtained. If your hair is naturally thick or straight, curling your hair into big waves will be particularly difficult. There are some tricks, though, that will help you curl just about any type or length of hair -- and keep it curled.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hair the day before you curl it. If your hair has some natural oils and dirt when you curl it, it is more likely to hold the curl shape.

    • 2

Dampen your hair and comb mousse through it with a wide-toothed brush.

    • 3

Roll your hair into large rubber rollers. Do not overload the rollers. Make sure that the total thickness of hair rolled into a roller does not exceed the diameter of the roller. Wrap the ends smoothly around the roller to avoid the problem of your hair ends kinking away from the rest of the smoothly curled hair.

Secure your hair in place with bobby pins. Spray an extreme amount of hairspray on your hair. A high-quality hairspray will allow your hair to stay in place without stiffening it. Allow it to dry overnight, or dry your hair with a hair dryer with a diffuser.

Remove the bobby pins and pull the rollers out of your hair.
