How to Become a Phi Beta Kappa

Joining an undergraduate honor society such as Phi Beta Kappa is an excellent way to set yourself apart from other students applying to graduate programs. Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest undergraduate honor society. Being a member of Phi Beta Kappa also looks excellent on scholarship and job applications. In order to join Phi Beta Kappa you must meet certain requirements. No one can apply for a membership; invitations are sent to students that fit the requirements.

      Attend a college that has a Phi Beta Kappa branch. Contact the college's administrative office to ask if they do.

      Enroll in a program that Phi Beta Kappa recognizes at your school such as liberal arts or nature sciences.

      Take enough classes to earn 60 credit hours.

      Pass your classes with As and Bs. A 3.75 GPA is required to be eligible for Phi Beta Kappa.

      Work in your local community or college as a volunteer, join clubs and involve yourself in after-school activities to make yourself stand out from other students.

      Talk to a teacher, mentor or the administrative office at your college to show your interest in Phi Beta Kappa.
