Cite the authors. MLA style requires the citation of the authors, last name first, as the first piece of information, with commas between the last and first name. For example: Pirisi, Angela. If there are more than one authors, you do not need to reverse the first and last name of subsequent authors. For example: Ginsberg, Benjamin, and Martin Shefter. Signify the end of the authors' citation with a period. If there is no author listed, proceed to Step 2.
Cite the title of the article, followed by a period. The name of the article should be in quotes with punctuation inside the quotes. For example: "Africa Day Celebrated in Havana."
Cite the name of the publication. Publications should be identified in italics.
Cite the date of publication. The date should be identified with the day first, followed by the month, then the year. For example, 31 May 2009. There should be no punctuation inside the date, nor between the date and the name of the publication.
Cite the edition, page number. Some newspapers have multiple editions, and each has a later deadline under which content can change as editors tweak the copy. Others publish in multiple languages. If the newspaper publishes multiple editions, signify which edition you are citing after the date, separated by a comma. For example: 31 May 2009, English ed. If there aren't multiple editions, place a colon after the date and disclose the page on which the article started. If there are multiple editions, place a colon after the edition then name the page. If the article covers multiple pages, note that with a + sign. Then note whether you have found the article in print. Two complete examples follow:
Article with no author, multiple editions:
"Africa Day Celebrated in Havana." Granma International 31 May 2009, English ed.: 16. Print.
Article with one author, single edition:
Yurth, Cindy. "Goodbye to Forest Lake Hero." Navajo Times 11 June 2009: A1+. Print.
Organize your bibliography according to the last names of the authors, in alphabetical order.
Cite authors first. Use the last name first, with the author's first name as an initial. For example: Delaney, K. J. If there are multiple authors, cite each one with the last name first, with a comma separating each author. For example: Delaney, K. J., Karnitschnig, M., & Guth, R. A. If there is no author listed, cite the title of the article, in quotation marks.
Cite the date of the article, in parentheses, followed by a period. For example: (2008, January 28).
Cite the title of the publication, in italics, followed by a comma and the page the article was found on. Abbreviate page with a "p" (quotes omitted). For example: The Wall Street Journal, p. A9. If the article spreads to multiple pages, cite each page, noting that there are multiple pages with the abbreviation "pp" (quotes omitted). For example: pp. A1, A12.
