List of Historically Black Business Colleges

Historically black colleges have a long and proud tradition of academic excellence that continues today. There are many options for those who wish to pursue a business degree at one of these institutions. These schools boast students with high SAT scores and rank among the pre-eminent universities in the nation. Competition is tough to get in, but for those who are motivated, the rewards are well worth the effort.
  1. Clark Atlanta University

    • Clark Atlanta, a UNCF (Unted Negro College Fund) school located in Atlanta, Georgia, admits students with an SAT of 858. About 26 percent of the student body pursues a major in business. In the 2010 to 2011 school year the university had 3,941 students, 71 percent of whom were female.

    Florida A&M University

    • This Tallahasse, Florida, university and its prestigious Wharton School of Business attract more Black National Merit scholars than Harvard University. Some 21 percent of the students choose to study business. The average SAT score is over 900.

    Hampton University

    • As much as 91 percent of students of Hampton University, located on the Virginia Peninsula near the Chesapeake Bay, are African Americans, as of 2011. Hampton University typically sees students with SAT scores over 1054. A full 26 percent of the students are business majors.

    Howard University

    • Howard University in Washington awards more business degrees each year than any other historically black college. The average SAT score is 990 or more.

    Jackson State University

    • In Jackson, Mississippi, this school's most popular major is business. The average ACT score is about 17.

    Morehouse College

    • Also in Atlanta, Georgia, Morehouse is a UNCF school for men who average over 1010 on their SAT. About 26 percent pursues a degree in business. Its sister school is Spelman, in Atlanta, whose women record equally high levels of achievement.

    North Carolina A&T University

    • This university is in Greensboro, North Carolina. The SAT average among its students is 840 to 870. Engineering and business majors make up about 25 percent of its students body.

    Southern University and A&M

    • Southern University and A&M at Baton Rouge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has students with an ACT average of 17. Seventeen percent of the population pursues a business degree.

    Tuskegee University

    • Founded by Booker T. Washington, this UNCF school is located in Tuskegee, Alabama. Fifteen percent of its students pursue business degrees, with an average SAT score of 936.

    Xavier University

    • Xavier is a UNCF school with an average SAT score of 957. Eleven percent of its student body majors in business.
