How to Convert Letter Grades to Numerical Grades for a Syllabus

While attending universities and colleges, students are given numerical grades on their transcripts after each semester or quarter. At the beginning of each semester or quarter, your professor will likely distribute a syllabus which will include a similar conversion chart that shows which numerical grades corresponds to each letter grade.

Instructions

    • 1

      Assign a letter grade to whole numbers: 4.0 = A, 3.0 = B, 2.0 = C, 1.0 = D, and 0 = F.

    • 2

Assign numerical grades for all plus (+) grades. B+, C+, and D+ will each be 0.4 points above the whole number grades. The breakdown for each of these grades will be as follows: B+ = 3.4, C+ = 2.4 and D+ = 1.4.

    • 3

Assign numerical grades for the remaining minus (-) grades. B-, C-, and D- will each be 0.3 points below the whole number grades. The breakdown for each of these grades will be as follows: A- = 3.7, B- = 2.7, C- = 1.7 and D- = 0.7.
