The reference list is intended to give readers information in where to locate and retrieve sources used in the research paper. Located at the end of the research paper on a separate page, this list should be titled simply "References," without italicizing, bolding or underlining. The page includes only works cited within the text of the paper. Any works referred to during the writing process, but not cited during the paper, are not included in the reference list.
The reference list must be formatted using the same font and double-spacing as the rest of the research paper. All lines following the first line in each entry should be indented from the left margin by 1/2-inch, also referred to as hanging indentation. All major words in journal titles are to be capitalized, with only the first word of web sites, chapters, books and articles being capitalized. The title of any longer work should be italicized, while shorter works, such as articles, should not be italicized.
Each author's name must be inverted, with the last name being displayed first, followed by the author's initials. For works featuring more than seven authors, ellipses are placed after the sixth author, followed by the name of the last author.
Entries placed in the reference list are in alphabetical order by the last name of the primary author in each publication. When a reference list features multiple articles from the same author, articles are placed in order by the date of publication, starting with the earliest article. Multiple articles by the same group of authors follows the same ordering rule, as long as the list of authors is in the same order for all articles.
