Grants and Scholarships for College for the Veterinary Field

There are many types of grants and scholarships available to students who wish to follow any course of study. Those that seek to specialize in veterinary medicine can find scholarships through various schools and organizations that work for animals. Most require that you already be enrolled in veterinary school to be eligible, and some also require that you study a particular veterinary specialty.
  1. Saul T. Wilson Jr. Scholarship Program

    • Presented by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, an arm of the United States Department of Agriculture, this scholarship is for veterinary students that may go into government or private service for agriculture. Eligible applicants must be enrolled as a full time student and must have completed at least two years of pre-veterinary schooling or no more than one year of a veterinary program. Students must agree to spend their summers and holidays working for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. This can include spending time in the field managing vaccinations and disease outbreaks, or working in a laboratory setting.

    Veterinary Student Scholarships

    • Presented by the American Kennel Club, this scholarship is aimed toward veterinary students that have a passion for purebred dogs. The funding is supported by the AKC Companion Animal Recovery group as well as Royal Canin and the AKC Canine Health Foundation. Eligible applicants must be full time students in a veterinary program and must have a background of activities with purebred dogs.

    Pfizer Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarship

    • Presented by the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, this scholarship is aimed toward students who wish to go into practice with large animals, especially cows. Eligible applicants will already be enrolled in a veterinary program, and will also belong to a student chapter of the AABP or some other food animal club.

    Harold W. Casey Scholarship Award

    • Presented by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, this specialized scholarship program is aimed toward veterinary students who wish to go into the field of veterinary pathology once they have their degree. This award is for more advanced veterinary students who already have their Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine nad have completed several years in a North American Pathology training program.
